Water service was restored to several businesses and a housing complex in Emporia on Monday afternoon after a water line break early in the day.
Stanton Heights and Emporia West Plaza lost water service well before sunrise after a fire suppression line broke near the strip mall. That line apparently did not have a shutoff valve when the break developed, which is why both sides of Stanton lost water service from 12th north to 15th.
Plumbing by Spellman handled repairs and said there was some difficulty in locating the actual source point of the leak. Once that was found, repairs moved quickly.
11 am Monday: Emporia West Plaza, Stanton Heights impacted by water line failure
Stanton Heights and much of Emporia West Plaza have no water after a pipe break early Monday morning.
Residents of Stanton Heights at 1302 Stanton contacted KVOE and Lyon County Dispatch. Public Works Director Frank Abart tells KVOE News a fire suppression line broke. That line apparently supplies the strip mall and Stanton Heights, and it apparently did not have a shutoff valve when the break developed. Stanton from 12th to 15th is basically affected on both sides of the street.
A call to Phillips Edison and Company, Emporia West Plaza’s management company, went to voice mail.
Plumbing by Spellman is currently on site to handle repairs. At this time, there is no word on when water service will be restored to those buildings.
Public Works Director Frank Abart says the same area of town had a water main break Thursday. Underground Utiilties crews also had to fix breaks on 12-inch lines on West Fifth near Chestnut and on Elm at Sixth over the weekend.
