Bushong’s old bank building is being repurposed.
On KVOE’s 8:05 am newscast Wednesday, Dianne Bedner-Smith and Gary Smith detailed plans for the bank property after the couple bought the building and two lots Monday. Bedner-Smith says the plan is to feature several different aspects of local and regional history.
The North Lyon County History Museum says Bushong State Bank was chartered in 1916 but failed during the Great Depression and closed in 1932.
The effort dovetails in part with the couple’s work on the North Lyon County Veterans Memorial, which has been out in front of the public for the past several years. Bedner-Smith says the past year has seen a lot of components installed, including benches last week. She also credited area veterans for helping to get the memorial closer to completion.
Smith, meanwhile, says the Veterans Memorial has generated a lot of discussion as construction has continued.
Planning continues for the Some Gave All fundraiser and concert to benefit the memorial Sept. 29. For more information or to donate, find information on the North Lyon County Veterans Memorial on Facebook.
