Several water systems in Coffey and Osage Counties have been lifted from a boil water advisory put in place after a line break near Melvern Lake Monday.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has rescinded the boil water advisory for 10 of the purchasing systems of Public Wholesale Water Supply District No. 12 after a line break earlier this week was reported. This includes the cities of Lebo, Lyndon, Pomona, Quenemo, Waverly, Williamsburg as well as Anderson County Rural Water District No. 4, Osage County Rural Water District No. 4, Melvern Reservoir Arrow Rock and the remainder of Coffey County Rural Water District No. 3.
The boil water advisory remains in effect still for the city of Melvern in Osage County because of a positive biological sample and officials say additional sampling must be conducted.
Those in a boil advisory should take the following precautions:
*Boil water for 60 seconds before drinkng or food preparation or use bottled water.
*Dispose of ice cubes. Do not use ice from a household automatic icemaker.
*Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersing for at least 60 seconds in clean tap water containing one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water.
*Flush lines if tap water appears dirty by letting the water run until it clears.
*Children need to be supervised while bathing so they do not swallow water, although bathing water does not need to be boiled.
