Lyon County Commissioners have adopted a budget for fiscal year 2019.
This year’s budget has $29.4 million total budget authority, with $19.4 million in taxable dollars to be levied with mill rate down 0.4 mills with the budget coming $130,000 under the tax lid. Commission chairman Rollie Martin credited citizens Thursday morning for helping themselves on property taxes by passing the 10-year sales tax.
Expenditures increased roughly $450,000 but cash carryover was increased as well from 2018 to 2019. Commissioner Dan Slater says many of those increases were in the areas of public safety.
Commissioner Scott Briggs agreed with Slater, noting the need for public safety enhancements is ongoing and always changing.
There were no members of the public in attendance for the budget hearing.
Commissioners also considered and approved a separate resolution for the amount being taxed for the Emporia Public Library and the library’s districts was $12,400 higher than the cap level.
