Emporia’s annual Walk to Defeat ALS is this Saturday morning.
There is no entry fee to participate and teams are raising money for the ALS Association. Development Manager Sarah Holmes says, in addition, there is also a new feature to this year’s walk called Unlock ALS.
Organizer Gary Ace hopes many will come out and help raise awareness, noting all funds raised stay local.
ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Unfortunately, there is no cure.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. in Jones Park with the walk starting at 9 a.m. You can also donate by searching for the Emporia Walk on the ALS website at alsa.org.
