Another opportunity for the public to hear more about a potential Convention of States bill is coming Monday.
The meeting is being planned by local Convention of States volunteers in the Emporia area. The discussion will include proposals to limit the power of the federal government. That includes potential term limits on federal officials and a balanced budget amendment. Volunteers are hoping to convince Kansas lawmakers to consider such a bill in the 2019 Legislative session.
So far 12 other states have ratified a petition to call such a convention. At least 34 states must ratify for a convention to be called.
The event gets underway at 7 p.m. Monday at the Lyon County Annex at 402 Commercial Street. The event is free and open to the public.
