An Emporia mother and her three children are sleeping much better now in their brand new home built by Habitat for Humanity.
In this week’s Feel Good Friday segment on KVOE, we highlighted the Aug. 17 celebration for Glenda Arriola, 14-year-old Yalinna, 12-year-old Mariette and 3-year-old Kaden. The house dedication followed seven months of hard work from the ground up. Pastor Charity Sandstrom from Friends Church blessed each room in the house during the ceremony.
Arriola, speaking through translator Yvette Sosa explained what the dedication meant to her.
Arriola is a 16-year employee of Tyson Foods and had been living in a mobile home that was becoming unsafe for her children.
This was the 18th house built by Emporia’s Habitat for Humanity chapter. Board Chairman Kirby Smith says he enjoys watching the future homeowner take an active role in the building process.
Arriola put her own stamp on the home including choosing burgundy doors and painting the walls inside the home all while juggling work and school as she works toward her GED.
At the ceremony, Arriola received a Spanish language copy of the Bible and a handmade quilt courtesy of Emporia Beth Hanschu.
