Two area cities are receiving state funds for road improvements starting in 2020.
Alma is receiving $230,000, while Council Grove is picking up $300,000. Both awards are for surface preservation through the state’s C-CLIP, or City Connecting Link Improvement Program.
C-CLIP has three different improvement categories. Surface preservation typically involves maintenance work like resurfacing and receive up to $300,000 a project. Pavement restoration, meanwhile, can involve “full-depth” restoration and can involve drainage projects. Geometric improvements are for additional turning lanes or improving intersections.
Cities with populations above 2,500 pay a 25 percent match for projects. Cities that don’t meet the population threshold do not need to provide matching money.
This year, the state is earmarking nearly $14 million in 2020 and 2021 for almost 30 projects across Kansas.
