Emporia Police have arrested a suspect in connection to Sunday’s alleged stabbing incident at Emporia’s IHOP restaurant.
Police arrived shortly before 5 p.m. to a report of a stabbing, where they found 25-year-old Noah Deere of Emporia with a cut on his back. According to officers at the scene, the cut was not bleeding and Deere declined medical treatment.
Through a police investigation, 46-year-old Hayward Paul McKoy, Jr. of Emporia was developed as the suspect. He was taken into custody around 9:30 p.m. Sunday evening. McKoy is jailed on charges of attempt to flee and elude police as well as aggravated battery.
Formal charges are pending from the Lyon County Attorney’s Office.
10 a.m. Monday: Stabbing suspect arrested, details pending

Emporia Police have not given any details about the case and the arrest other than what developed on scene. One man was reportedly stabbed in the back. He was treated on scene and did not need any additional medical treatment.

6 pm Sunday: Emporia Police investigating after apparent stabbing incident
Emporia Police are investigating an apparent stabbing that took place Sunday afternoon in the IHOP parking lot at 2831 West 18th Ave.
Shortly before 5 p.m. Emporia Police and Emporia/Lyon County Fire and EMS responded to a report of trauma involving a male patient. Early indications are that the victim may have been stabbed in the back. The incident took place on the west side of the building behind the kitchen and to the east of the Hampton Inn hotel building. By the time officers arrived on scene, the suspect had already fled. Officer Nathan Rankin tells KVOE News the case remains an open investigation. A suspect and vehicle description are pending.
The victim was treated on scene and did not require medical transport. Further details should become available soon as Emporia Police continue their investigation.
