With the countdown on for the upcoming general election, politicians are ramping up their campaigns.
On Monday evening, Democratic hopeful Alan LaPolice was the featured speaker at the Lyon County Democrats monthly meeting, talking about his bid for Kansas’ 1st Congressional District seat. LaPolice says he’s reached out to chamber directors, Farm Bureau and the Kansas State Fair board to see if they would schedule a debate between he and Republican incumbent Roger Marshall.
LaPolice says Marshall failed on his agenda two years ago to bring more unity to politics, something LaPolice says is a big part of his platform
In terms of trade, LaPolice says farmers are being forced to pay for the president’s ongoing trade war, imposing tariffs on some of America’s top trading partners. He says other countries stand ready to fill the void if America loses its trade partners, citing Brazil and its 200 million acre Cerrado region.
In his speech to the Lyon County Democrats Monday evening LaPolice clamored for unity and called out Marshall for not fulfilling his campaign promises for bipartisanship made two years ago.
He also acknowledged that he’ll have to turn some Republican voters in his favor and says he’ll continue to campaign across the First District.
Marshall will also make a stop in Emporia Wednesday, speaking at a community coffee at the Emporia Arts Center, 815 Commercial Street.
