The city of Emporia is closing a rather well-traveled residential intersection as infrastructure work continues nearby.
Fifteenth and Rural will close Thursday and remain closed for possibly up to two weeks as an 8-inch water main is replaced north to 18th. There will be an official detour route signed, but all local traffic is encouraged to find other routes with the closure in effect.
The work on Rural begins as similar water main work continues on East Wilman Court a block to the east. Both projects should be wrapped up in the next few weeks.
Separately, railroad crossings at East and Peyton have been closed this week as Burlington Northern Santa Fe repairs those intersections. Both crossings should reopen to traffic by Friday.
