Next week, the USD 253 Emporia School Board has a decision to make.
The board will have formal interviews of six residents wanting to fill an open position that developed when Mike Helbert resigned after 11 years. Board President Mike Crouch tells KVOE News the board plays an important role in leading and serving the district.
William Bernhardt-Purdy, Julie Cooper, Dennis Newell, Jennifer Baldwin, Joseph Corn and Mallory Koci have applied. Crouch says the board is looking for someone who understands their specific role on the board as well as the big picture so the district keeps the best interest of all students in mind.
Candidates will interview as part of a special meeting at 7 pm Wednesday at Mary Herbert, and one could be chosen for the board that night. The person chosen will serve the rest of Helbert’s term, which expires in January 2020.
