Two Emporians were hospitalized after a wreck north of town Saturday.
Lyon County deputies, Kansas Highway Patrol troopers and Emporia/Lyon County EMS were called out to the 1900 block of Kansas Highway 99 around 2:15 pm. Investigators say 16-year-old Conner Grayson was driving a pickup northbound and slowed to turn into a driveway when a northbound SUV driven by 72-year-old Karen Watson rear-ended the truck.
Both went to Newman Regional Health with what deputies say are non-life-threatening injuries. Both drivers were also wearing their seatbelts when the crash happened.
Kansas Highway 99 was reduced to one lane for close to an hour following the wreck.
3:15 pm Saturday: Crash outside Emporia hurts two people
A two-vehicle crash north of Emporia on Saturday sent both drivers to the hospital for treatment.
The crash at Kansas Highway 99 and Road 195, roughly 1.5 miles north of Emporia, was reported shortly before 2:30 pm. Early indications are a northbound SUV or minivan rear-ended a pickup, also northbound.
The crash apparently led to a small vehicle fire in the SUV, but Emporia Fire Capt. Tony Fuller says that was put out by the time fire crews arrived.
Further details are currently pending, including names. Lyon County deputies, Kansas Highway Patrol troopers and Emporia Fire crews have been on scene.
