Nicholls defeated the Kansas Jayhawks 26-23 in overtime in the season opener for both football teams Saturday night.
Nicholls scored first. Kansas tied the game at 7 on a Peyton Bender to Steven Sims 2 yard pass. The game was tied at 10 at halftime.
In the 3rd quarter Nicholls re-took the lead. In the 4th Kansas took a 20-17 lead on a Peyton Bender to Kerr Johnson 15 yard pass. Nicholls tied the game with 47 seconds to play. In the overtime Kansas had to settle for a fieldgoal. Nicholls won the game on a 4 yard touchdown run. The Jayhawks play at Central Michigan next Saturday.
