The Emporia Police investigation into the death of resident Jose Angel Montes is now into its third month.
Montes, 21, was either standing or walking on Interstate 35 near the Burlingame Road exit when he was hit and killed by a semi early July 1. Montes was found after a northbound semi driven by 47-year-old Dewaine Jackson of Amarillo, Texas, was approaching the exit.
It is still unclear why Montes was on the highway. Investigators have been waiting for toxicology results and a final autopsy. Those can take up to six months to finalize.
Lyon County Crime Stoppers is still offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information related to the accident. Anonymous tips can be submitted at 620-342-2273, or via P3 smartphone app or online at p3tips.com.
