A lot of orange cones are up on some of Emporia’s busier streets.
Two overall projects are getting started that both have a pair of significant work zones. Milling and overlay is seeing preliminary work on Merchant Street from South Avenue to 12th. On KVOE’s Talk of Emporia last week, City Engineer Jim Ubert said contractors are working around parking arrangements with this particular construction zone.
The other aspect of this project is resurfacing Industrial Road from US Highway 50 to Interstate 35. In answering a caller’s question, Ubert said this is a project that makes sense.
Merchant Street north of 12th is seeing a separate resurfacing project as part of the Kansas Department of Transportation’s CCLIP program, with work starting later on Merchant from 12th to Interstate 35 and work on Commercial from Kansas Avenue to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks.
Both overall projects should last around six weeks.
Several major water line projects also continue or are about to see construction. We’ll profile those later this week on KVOE and KVOE.com.
