MELVERN — American flags adorned the Kansas Highway 31 bridge over Interstate 35 on Tuesday.
For the past 16 years, the bridge has been the site of Random Acts of Patriotism — the area event organized to remember the heroes of Sept. 11, 2001. Spokesman John Kitt says the nearly 3,000 people that died that day need to be remembered forever.
In many cases, somebody with a direct link to the terror attacks has stopped at the bridge during the event.
The terror attacks brought down the World Trade Center’s twin towers and left a hole in the Pentagon. Another plane crashed near Shanksville, Penn., as passengers fought back against the terrorists.
