Construction on the newest Emporia State University research facility is going swimmingly.
ESU announced earlier this year construction of the privately funded Prophet Aquatic and Research Facility, which is named after former ESU biology professor Carl Prophet. Construction began in early March with the placing of poles at the facility location, the next step will be the construction of a platform to be placed on top.
Dr. Brent Thomas, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, was a recent guest on ESU Buzz and explained what the new facility will contain.
along with the new labs will be an outreach facility which Thomas says will allow them to expand several programs.
Chair of the Division of Biological Sciences Dr. Tim Burnett adds another major advantage of the facility will be the convenience to biology students and their research.
The next step in the construction process will be the laying of wires and utilities along the site. Thomas says if everything goes according to plan, the facility will likely open in fall 2019.
