Flu shots are in the news these days with the official onset of flu season beginning next month.
Many local pharmacies have their flu vaccines on hand, and Haag Pharmacy — which is on that list — is also reminding people to keep up on other vaccines as well. Depending on their physical situation, Amber Haag says people also need to keep in mind pneumonia, shingles, tetanus, diptheria and pertussis. Haag says the shingles vaccine has been extremely effective, but it has been on back order.
When it comes to flu, Haag says the 2018-19 season could mirror the one from 2017-18.
Haag says Haag Pharmacy is carrying two different vaccines, the quadrivalent and the high-dose, both of which are designed to reduce the impact of four different flu strains. The Centers for Disease Control recommends you get the flu shot by the end of October, but Haag says the pharmacy actually got people vaccinated into January this year — and flu cases were actually noticed locally into April.
