A new grant awarded by the State of Kansas will lend a hand in the consolidation process for Emporia Child Care.
Emporia Community Day Care Center was one of 16 nonprofit organizations in Kansas who were recently announced as a recipient of a Community Service Tax Credit earlier this month. The $210,000 tax credit will aid with renovations to help consolidate services at both ECC locations in Emporia.
Emporia Child Care Director Deb Crowl explains exactly how the tax credit works.
Federal taxes are another form of assistance to the ECC, as in year’s past donors would receive a full refund of their donation. However, with the recent changes in federal tax laws, Crowl says they have to wait and see how that will play a factor.
Since December 2013 Emporia Child Care has been operating out of their building at 1320 C of E Drive where they serve infants and toddlers. Plans have been in motion for several years to help consolidate services at both the C of E Drive and Commercial street locations which serves preschool-aged children.
The Department of Commerce tax credit program has assisted nonprofit organizations with major capital fundraising since 1994. ECC, a community partner with United Way of the Flinthills, will not be accepting any donations until United Way’s fundraising campaign concludes on November 1st.
