Lyon County voters, you have another option for casting your ballots this election cycle.
Voters can already take advantage of advance voting, which goes from Oct. 22-Nov. 5, and they can certainly vote on Election Day itself, which is Nov. 6. Now the Election Office has set aside Oct. 20 from 9 am -1 pm at Flinthills Mall as a special voting day for all county residents. Here’s County Clerk Tammy Vopat:
There are a lot of contested races at the state level, including governor, attorney general, secretary of state and insurance commissioner. There is also the 51st District House race between Ron Highland and Noah Wright. At the federal level, the First District House race is also contested between Roger Marshall and Alan LaPolice. Locally, Americus and Neosho Rapids have sales tax questions on the ballot. along with precinct positions and Reading Fire positions.
Vopat says other Kansas counties are trying this approach, and Lyon County is trying to make it more accessible for voters to take part in elections.
Voter registration ends Oct. 16. Advance voting begins Oct. 22, and Oct. 30 is the last day to apply for a mail ballot.
