Washburn Rural slipped past the Emporia High boys soccer team 2-1 in overtime Tuesday night.
Emporia Highs Wilber Landaverde scored on a penalty kick in the 2nd half to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead with 27 minutes to play. Rural tied the match with just over 7 minutes to play and scored the match winner with 1:33 to play in the first overtime. Emporia High Coach Victor Ibarra was encouraged by the way the team played.
The Spartans fall to 7-2 for the season and 3-1 in league play. They play at Topeka High Thursday.
