The Emporia City Commission is one step closer to finalizing a water improvement project in southeast Emporia.
During Wednesday’s action meeting, commissioners approved the awarding of a $3.1 million bid from Caldwell Tanks. The bid is subject to the approval of an Economic Development Association grant to fund a new water tower in Industrial Park III. Commissioner Jon Geitz says the project could start at the end of the year or first part of next year.
The project is part of a larger overall expansion at Simmons Pet Food announced late last year with a one million gallon tank planned in that area.
Commissioners also approved an amendment to the city’s rental housing ordinance following information gathered during last week’s study session. The ordinance requires landlords to maintain a 68-degree standard heating temperature in rental properties, up from the former standard of 60 degrees.
