Emporia firefighters were called to an intersection in southeast Emporia after a city garbage truck apparently pulled down an overhead line.
Fire crews were called to the intersection of South Cottonwood and East Potwin around 7:10 am Friday. An investigation determined the line belonged to ValuNet FIBER. The line was repaired.
Details are pending, but Solid Waste Supervisor Keith Senn says the line may have sagged due to rainfall early in the morning. He says this occasionally happens after rainfall activity.
Fire Battalion Chief Rich Gould says downed lines are always potentially dangerous, so people should call 911 if they see a downed line. People also should not touch or go near the downed line.
