USD 252 Southern Lyon County recently was awarded a $25,000 grant to further its STEM programs through America’s Farmer Grow Rural Education program.
The district is planning to utilize the grant to incorporate drone technology and hydroponic systems within the existing greenhouses for students in 9th through 12th grades. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math. The Grow Rural Education program is awarding $2.3 million to deserving schools.
To qualify, a local farmer had to nominate the school district. The district’s application was chosen by the Grow Rural Education Farmer Advisory Council, consisting of 30 farm leaders across the country. The merit-based grants are awarded annually to schools of either $10,000 or $25,000.
