A colorful, unique event took place Saturday as more than 100 people flocked to Emporia State University for the annual Nitty Gritty Tie-Dye Run.
The 5K run and walk invites participants out for a morning of fitness with the goal of raising funds for nonprofit agencies in the area. Organizer Katie Ollenburger says the event raised over $3,000 last year and the goal was to exceed that this year.
The event wrapped with a color party on the steps of Plumb Hall. ESU student Marisleysis Velazquez was all smiles afterwards.
Emily Velazquez, a recent graduate of ESU now attending Fort Hays State came back to participate in the run for the first time with her sister.
