The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has launched a Maternal Mortality Review with the focus on solving issues related to maternal and pregnancy-related deaths.
KDHE has launched a review committee tasked with answering two questions. KDHE Bureau of Family Health Director Rachel Sisson.
In 2017, there were 17 pregnancy-associated maternal deaths reported in Kansas, a trend that’s unfortunately been on the rise in recent years. Sisson explains that’s why KDHE like many other state health departments have seen the need to take action.
Partners helping with the Maternal Mortality Review include the Kansas leadership from American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the March of Dimes. The MMR Committee convened for the first time on June 12. The first full meeting to review 2016 Kansas death cases will be held in November.
