Ag producers planning to enroll in federal crop insurance programs are running out of time to enroll.
Farmers and ranchers planning to gain coverage through the Agriculture Risk Coverage, or ARC, and Price Loss Coverage, or PLC, programs have until Friday to enroll if their farms do not have generic base acres. The deadline for generic base acres is Dec. 7.
The insurance programs were authorized as part of the 2014 Farm Bill as a safety net if there is a major drop in prices for covered commodities or resulting revenues. Producers that are not enrolled will not be eligible for aid from either program if crop prices or farm revenues fall below certain benchmarks. Producers who have participated in the past still need to enroll.
