Lyon County’s oldest building is celebrating its sesquicentennial this weekend and festivities are planned for the big birthday bash.
The Lyon County Historical Society is hosting the Howe House and Welsh Farmstead 150th anniversary celebration. The kickoff begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Lyon County History Center, 711 Commercial Street. Director Greg Jordan explains.
Things really get going Saturday at the farmstead, located at 315 E. Logan Ave with an open house. Barb Ternes-Lowery, who is on the anniversary celebration subcommittee says it will be a history lesson for those who come out.
A vintage tractor show and home life demonstrations including weaving, soap-making and grain processing will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Vintage agricultural demonstrations will take place at 11 a.m. All of those activities are free to the public. In addition, there will be a food court lined up from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and child-friendly activities from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
