The Kansas Insurance Department has released information about the three health insurance companies offering coverage through the federal marketplace.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas, Medica Insurance Company and Ambetter through Sunflower Health Plan have signed agreements with the federal government to offer 23 plans through www.healthcare.gov. Blue Cross Blue Shield and Medica will offer their plans statewide, while Ambetter coverage is available in the Kansas City area — Johnson, Wyandotte, Miami and Leavenworth counties.
In addition to releasing information about those companies, Insurance Commissioner Ken Selzer encouraged residents to find out more information about so-called Short Term Limited Duration policies and Association Health Plans by calling 800-432-2484 or by going online to www.ksinsurance.org.
Open enrollment begins Nov. 1 and ends Dec. 15.
This insurance information is separate from the insurance information about companies participating in KanCare, the state’s Medicaid program. Earlier this summer, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment selected Sunflower, United Healthcare Midwest and Aetna Better Health as its providers. Aetna is set to replace Amerigroup, but Amerigroup has filed suit to remain as a provider. Open enrollment begins next month and continues through the end of the year.
For more information on the KanCare program, go online to www.kancare.ks.gov or call the Kansas Clearinghouse at 800-792-4884.
