A well-traveled block of Merchant Street between 7th and 8th Ave. near downtown, is closed off until further notice.
A water main break on a six-inch fire hydrant line developed sometime early Thursday morning near 8th Ave. and Merchant, according to Street and Underground Utilities Supervisor Mike Dvorak. Crews will be making repairs on the line throughout the day, but at this point, it’s unclear how soon that route could reopen.
Traffic is being rerouted east to Commercial Street and west to Constitution. Motorists are encouraged to proceed with caution in that area.
