The Emporia High boys soccer team lost a heart breaker to Manhattan 3-2 Thursday night. Manhattan scored the winning goal with 14 seconds to play in regulation.
Hector Hernandez scored the first goal for Emporia High with 18:34 to play in the first half to tie the match at 1. Anthony Fierro scored the second Spartan goal with 12:34 to play in the first half and tied the match at 2. Both teams had numerous shots to break the tie before Manhattan scored the winner. Coach Victor Ibarra said his team played well enough to win.
The Spartans are now 9-3 for the season and 5-2 in Centennial League play.
