The 31st class of Leadership Emporia is underway this fall, a collaboration between the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce and Kansas Leadership Center.
A group of 25 Emporians are challenging themselves to become more engaged in the community, learning about the traits necessary to get involved in civic engagement. Emporia Chamber President and CEO Jeanine McKenna says the partnership is beneficial to finding residents to fill volunteer seats on a variety of boards and commissions.
The opening retreat was held last week and the first of five sessions are taking place Oct. 4. McKenna says the Emporia Chamber has one of the best programs in the state due to its close relationship with the Kansas Leadership Center. She talks about some of the topics that will be discussed.
There is a focus on how to work on everyday issues, energizing other people and intervening and managing yourself through each process. Each session focuses on different competencies.
