One person escaped serious injury when his car rolled as part of a crash about a mile south of Olpe on Thursday evening.
Lyon County Deputy Justin Carr says 31-year-old Nelson Garcia had minor injuries and declined on-site treatment when deputies, Lyon County Ambulance and Olpe first responders arrived at the wreck site in the 600 block of Kansas Highway 99 shortly after 5:35 pm. Garcia was actually out of his vehicle and walking around when law enforcement and rescue workers arrived.
Initial reports had the vehicle on its top and possibly on fire. The car had overturned on its top, but Carr says there was no fire as part of this incident.
Garcia told authorities he was northbound on Highway 99 when his passenger tires went off the side of the road. He tried to steer back onto the highway and miss a road sign in the process, but his car went across the highway and into a ditch before rolling onto its top.
Garcia was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
