Northwest Missouri State scored 21 2nd quarter points on the way to a 41-0 win over the Emporia State football team Saturday.
The Bearcats used two long pass plays, 80 yards and 72 yards, to blow the game open in the 2nd quarter. After giving up 27 first half points the Emporia State defense gave up a touchdown in the 3rd and one in the 4th quarter. The Hornet offense was held to 194 yards of total offense. They were in the red zone only 1 time. Quarterback Braxton Marstall was 16-34 passing for 142 yards. Landon Nault was held to 29 rushing yards on 11 carries. Justin Brown was the leading receiver with 7 catches for 68 yards. Brown passes Mitchell Foote for 2nd for most career receptions.
Northwest finished with 450 yards of offense. Quarterback Braden Wright threw for 255 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Emporia State Coach Garin Higgins called it a disappointing performance.
The Hornets fall to 2-3 for the season. They will host Fort Hays State next Saturday.
