The Emporia City Commission held a short action meeting Wednesday afternoon.
An ordinance and request for Radius Brewing’s upcoming Quartermania event at the White Auditorium Little Theatre was tabled. Commissioners also approved an ordinance to merge the Emporia Human Relations Commission and Accessibility Advisory Committee by a 4-1 margin. Rob Gilligan voted against, noting concerns with a 10-member board and the potential for tie votes.
During public comment, Lt. Kevin Risley of the Emporia Police Department was recognized for his graduation from the FBI National Academy, a 10-week leadership course held in Virginia earlier this year. Commissioner Becky Smith says Risley’s honor is an honor for the city as a whole.
KVOE News will have more from Lt. Risley during the Feel Good Friday segment coming up later this week on KVOE.
With resurfacing projects now underway both along Merchant Street and Industrial Road, Smith took time also to thanks motorists for exercising patience over the next few weeks and says there will be some lane closures, accompanied by pilot cars.
Projects are expected to wrap up later this month, but could be delayed by weather.
