The forest of orange cones in Emporia keeps sprouting. And with good reason.
Milling has taken place on Merchant Street just west of the Emporia State campus from 12th north to near Interstate 35. Emporia State has been planning for this work and will have a series of on-campus traffic and parking adjustments, but those will go into effect later this fall. An official start date for those is pending.
Milling is also underway on Merchant from 12th to 11th, as well on 12th from Merchant to Commercial. Traffic is constricted around those intersections all day.
Merchant is seeing road repaving as part of two separate projects, with the activity around Emporia State connected to repaving work on Commercial Street between the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks and Kansas Avenue.
Separately, KDOT crews are re-striping US Highway 50 from the roundabout connecting the highway, Interstate 35 and the Kansas Turnpike west to the Lyon-Chase county line. That work was originally set to wrap up by mid-October, but rain chances over the next week could delay that project.
