Emporia State University has enacted some on-campus parking and traffic changes with a significant repaving project underway on the university’s west edge.
Milling has taken place on Merchant Street just west of the Emporia State campus from 12th north to near Interstate 35, and pavement is tentatively set to begin Thursday despite rain chances into next week. With that in mind, ESU has made the following adjustments:
*The west parking lot west of William Allen White Library, Science Hall and Cremer will have the entrance near 13th, or across from CVS Pharmacy, closed until further notice as will the right-hand-only exit behind Science Hall. The north parking lot with meters and gold parking will serve as an entrance to the west lot and all parking, except for handicapped, will be removed. Drivers will enter campus at 12th and Kellogg Circle, drive west into the metered/gold lot after passing Plumb Hall and then proceed into the metered/orange lot. To leave that parking area, proceed to the north end and turn right onto 15th.
*Pedestrians are told to pay attention to the paving work as it progresses. If work is taking place around 12th, pedestrians are told to cross Merchant at 15th or 18th. If work is underway further north, they need to cross at 12th.
*Drivers are encouraged to access campus via Kellogg Circle, Highland Street or Market Street. Drivers using Interstate 35 to get to campus are told to use the Burlingame Road exit instead of the Merchant Street exit until the paving project is over.
These adjustments could be in effect the next three to four weeks, weather permitting.
