An awards ceremony focusing on children’s literature is taking place this weekend on the campus of Emporia State University.
Events for the annual William Allen White Children’s Book Awards kick off Saturday morning at 7:40 a.m. and include the sale of the winning books, children’s activities and a parade led by the Emporia High School cheerleaders and band at 10:45 a.m. ESU Assistant Director of Marketing and Media Relations Gwen Larson spoke about this year’s winners during KVOE’s Morning Show Thursday.
Winners are chosen from a series of books selected by a selection committee that includes Kansas librarians, with books voted on by Kansas schoolchildren.
The awards ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m. in Webb Hall on the Memorial Union’s second floor. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door. All participants should enter the east side of the Memorial Union.
