More road adjustments are coming in the near future along Merchant Street.
The City of Emporia Engineering Department says the first phase of asphalt pavement milling and overlay operations on Merchant from 6th to 12th Ave. will tentatively begin Monday. The second phase on Merchant from South Ave. to 6th Ave. will follow this initial sequence.
As a result, Merchant Street will remain open to traffic, but there will be lane shifts and closures during these construction activities. The road work is anticipated to last approximately three weeks, weather permitting. Side roads adjacent to this portion of Merchant Street also may have brief closures.
All local traffic is encouraged to find alternate routes or proceed in this area with caution.
