The memory of Wade Barrett continues to live on nine years after his passing due to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
The ninth annual Wade’s Ride event will be held this Saturday at the Wagon Wheel restaurant located at 2909 West 9th Ave in Emporia. The ride benefits the Wade Barrett Memorial Fund.
Event organizer and mother of Wade Barrett Gail Barrett says she is amazed by the event’s growth and attributes its success to the support of the community.
Barrett adds after her son’s death it was extremely difficult for her and her husband to share their story. Over the years sharing their story has become much easier and even therapeutic.
The event consists of a 100-mile motorcycle ride and a 25-mile gravel road bike ride, and silent auction. All proceeds benefit the swaddle program for infants born at Newman Regional Health.
Those wishing to participate may register the day of the event. The ride will launch at 9 a.m. with lunch and the silent auction to follow.
