The flood of October 2018 is over.
The Neosho River went below flood stage at Neosho Rapids late Saturday afternoon, ending a week of flooding along the Cottonwood and Neosho rivers after anywhere from 10-16 inches of rainfall Oct. 3-9 and up to another inch of rainfall Oct. 11-12.

For ag producers, the heavy rainfall comes at a difficult time. Lyon County Extension agent Brian Rees says harvest has essentially been put on hold.
Rees says the immediate concern is the crop condition, but field damage will be an ongoing issue.
Corn and beans had made dramatic progress over the past month as rain blunted the ongoing drought. For beans, Rees says yields could wind up close to average.
Corn yields were in line to be extremely strong in southern Lyon County — up to 200 bushels an acre or more — while yields on north Lyon County could have been as low as 10 bushels an acre in places where the corn wasn’t already cut for silage.
