A cool, foggy morning didn’t make for ideal riding conditions, but area residents still came out to the Wagon Wheel Restaurant to support the ninth annual Wade’s Ride fundraiser Saturday.
The event was named for Wade Barrett, who passed away from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, and ever since its inception the event has raised money to raise awareness about SIDS. Wade’s mother and event organizer Gail Barrett says she is shocked how the event has been received over time.
As has been the case the last few years, fundraising bolsters the swaddle program at Newman Regional Health and the Lyon County Community Baby Shower. Totals from the motorcycle ride, bike ride and silent auction are pending.
Barrett says plans for the 10th annual event will be coming together in the coming months, but there will be some changes. First, the event will be centered at the Bowyer Community Building instead of the Wagon Wheel. Second, Barrett wants to expand SIDS-related programs to nearby hospitals or expand access to neighboring counties that don’t have hospital facilities.
