An Emporia woman was injured following a crash on Interstate 35 Monday evening in Emporia.
Shortly after 7:30 p.m. a northbound minivan driven by 71-year-old Evelyn Dix crashed in the median near mile marker 129, approximately two miles east of the Industrial Road exit. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Dix’s vehicle left the roadway to the right, striking a guardrail. The vehicle then crossed both lanes of traffic, entered into the center median and came to rest after striking a guardrail in the median. Dix was transported to Newman Regional Health. The hospital does not release patient information to the media.
The KHP crash log states that Dix was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. KHP was assisted by Emporia Police and Emporia/Lyon County Fire and Rescue at the scene.

Details are pending after a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 late Monday night in Emporia.
Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Emporia Police, Emporia Fire and troopers with the Kansas Highway Patrol responded to the northbound lanes of I-35 near mile marker 128 about a mile east of the Industrial Road exit. Early indications are that the driver struck the guardrail in the median head-on, causing significant front end damage. It is unknown how many people may have been injured. Those details are pending through a Kansas Highway Patrol investigation.
Traffic was reduced to one lane in both directions for close to an hour as emergency crews worked the scene. KVOE News will update the story as more information becomes available.
