An Emporia State University alum shared a positive message during the eighth-annual Sam E. and Jeannene Hayes Lecture to kick off 2018 Homecoming festivities Thursday evening.
Ron Frierson, director of national incentives for NAI Capital, based out of Los Angeles, delivered this year’s lecture entitled “Our Companions on a Successful Path: Relationships, Change, Challenge and Service.” Prior to his speech, Frierson (class of 1996) spoke with KVOE News about what he hopes students take away from his speech.
Frierson’s lecture topic came from his belief that all of his personal and professional achievements are directly related to his desire to serve others.
Originally from Michigan, Frierson says his time in Emporia helped him immensely as he became immersed into a completely new environment.
Before his successful career, Frierson was a student-athlete playing basketball under legendary ESU coach Ron Slaymaker while earning a bachelor’s degree in social science. He believes acts of service are the most effective and therapeutic means of navigating the ups and downs of life and career.
Homecoming activities continue on campus through Sunday. For more information, go online to emporia.edu/homecoming.
