The United Way of the Flint Hills is approaching the 20 percent mark of its annual fundraising campaign total.
Campaign chair Vicki Brooks had an update during KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Friday, saying around $100,000 is now in the bank due to early fundraising events like Dine United, the Small Business Blitz and the Wolf Creek Golf Tournament — and also due to the work of Pacesetter companies. Brooks singled out ValuNet FIBER for raising almost $9,000 on 100 percent participation, Lyon County State Bank adding over $12,000 and Modern Air topping $6,000 in donations.
Brooks also relayed a story from Executive Director Jami Reever, highlighting the giving nature of community members.
The next Dine United event is set for Oct. 25 from 7 am to 7 pm at Granada Coffee Company. As part of that, KVOE’s Ron Thomas will serve as a celebrity barista from 8:30-9:30 am.
This year’s goal is $555,000, with proceeds benefitng over 20 community partners in Lyon County, surrounding counties and Woodson County. For more information about the drive, call the United Way office at 342-7564 or go online to www.unitedwayoftheflinthills.org.
