Competition was fierce Friday night as four culinary arts students strutted their talents during the Flint Hills Technical College cooking competition dubbed “The Cut.”
The event challenged each chef — Darcie Miles, Sarah Turner, Micah Cash and Jacob Holmes — to come up with an appetizer in a set amount of time from a mystery basket of ingredients, an entree and a dessert with one person getting cut each round until Holmes was crowned champion.
Cash was second, with Turner finishing third.
The event was a near-sellout with close to 150 people attending. Judges for the night included Bobbi Sauder, Angie Schreiber, Radius Brewing co-owner and chef Gus Bays and Broadmoor Luxury Retreats executive chef David Patterson.
Afterward, FHTC Vice President of Advancement Mike Crouch says ultimately the students shined bright.
The Culinary Arts department was in the spotlight, but the event was also a showcase for the college’s Interactive Multimedia Design department, which filmed all the action and created different production pieces for the night.
Money raised will support the $2.4 million Inspiring Wranglers capital campaign for renovating the Culinary Arts department’s kitchen and learning space.
