A total of 330 Lyon County voters opted to vote early Saturday at the Flinthills Mall rather than wait until the Nov. 6 election.
For the first time in its history, the Lyon County Election Office hosted a satellite election site for Saturday voting, offering one additional opportunity for voters to be able to cast their ballots. Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat is pleased with the response they’ve seen already.
A steady stream of voters came out, some waiting as much as 15 to 20 minutes to cast their ballots. By 11 a.m. an estimated 160 Lyon County voters had already stopped in to vote. Vopat says this was an example of the local government listening to the needs of voters.
Voters who came out were appreciative of the opportunity to come vote on a Saturday, to avoid scheduling conflicts around work and school.
Traditional advance voting begins Monday at the Lyon County Courthouse. Oct. 30 is the final day to apply for a mail ballot.
