The Emporia High football team opened the 5A playoffs with a 35-17 win over Wichita Heights Friday night.
Tyler Lindquist scored the first two touchdowns for the Spartans in a back and forth first half. The game was tied at 14 at halftime.
Jace Stewart scored a rushing touchdown and added a touchdown pass to Spencer Stewart to give the Spartans a 28-17 lead.
Skylar Douglas would added a touchdown run to put the game out of reach for Wichita Heights. Emporia High Coach Corby Milleson called it a good team win.
The Emporia High football team improves to 5-4 for the season they will at Wichita Northwest next Friday. Northwest defeated Salina South 58-24.
Area scores:
Olpe defeated Uniontown 61-0. The Eagles host Pleasanton next Friday.
