Justin Brown scored on an 8 yard touchdown pass reception to give the Emporia State football team a 34-31 win over Washburn in overtime Saturday.
Brown also blocked a field goal try at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime.

It was a back and forth game with Emporia State quarterback Braxton Marstall threw 3 touchdown passes and scored 2 rushing touchdowns. His 373 yards passing makes him the all time leader for passing yards in school history.
Tyler Harris, Jordan Reed and Justin Brown caught the touchdown passes.
Defensively sophomore linebacker Jace McDown led the Hornets with 14 tackles.
Washburn was led by their quarterback Mitch Schurig who throw for 397 yards and 4 touchdowns. James Brania-Hopp had 8 catches for 217 yards and 3 touchdowns.
The Hornets led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. The game was tied at 21 at halftime. The Emporia State led 28-21 going to the 4th quarter. Washburn tied the game with 14:51 to play. In the overtime Emporia State held Washburn to a field goal on their first possession. Emporia State would take 2 plays to score, a 17 yard run by Landon Nault and the touchdown pass to Justin Brown. Coach Garin Higgins said they made enough plays.
The Hornets improve to 5-4 for the season and will host Missouri Southern Next Saturday.
